Austria starts European League campaign

Austria starts it’s CEV European League campaign like ist did lats year’s: With a game in salzburg (Wals-Siezenheim). This season is even more important for the Austrians as they intensively prepare for the EuroVolley 2011, that will take place from September 10th to 18th in Austria and the Czech Republic. The first opponent in the European League is Greece. The games take place on May 26th in the “Walfersamhalle“ and on May 28th in the “Stadthalle“ of Steyr. Both games will be televised live on ORF Sport Plus.

The drawing of lots provided the second edition of last year’s duel with Greece. Last year the Austrians had a great start of the season as they surprisingly won  the first game. Also this year hopes are high , but one has to consider Greece is 27 places ahead of Austria (number 46) in the World Rankings.  One still has to wait, which formation the Greeks will use. “We know that Greece has named all of their notable players for the European League. Which players really will show up in Austria, we will see when they step out of the airplane. It’s a fact that we are occupied with ourselves more than with our opponents at this stage of our EuroVolley-preparations. The tactical preparations are not that important right now”, said Austrian Headcoach Michael Warm.
