Pool A, Vienna

"A year ago nobody would have expected that we would already be able to deliver such a good performance. We have used the preparation time well – everybody can see that in the way we are playing. Of course, we still are the clear underdogs in this tournament. You cannot catch up the ten-year development of other nations in just one year. However, the EuroVolley 2011 is to be the kick-start for a positive long-term development in Austria. We want to find out where our limits are."

"Grbic, one of the superstars of recent years will not compete in the tournament. This is a true loss that the team of Serbia needs to cope with. Therefore I am not sure whether it will be enough for a very big success. It will be interesting to see how the team will cope with the change. And with Milijkovic they still have one of the best players in their ranks."

The “EuroVolley 2011” at the heart of Europe

Between September 10 and 18, 2011 Europe’s volleyball elite will gather in Austria and the Czech Republic to determine the new European Champion in the course of the EuroVolley 2011.

“We have to live up to high expectations. Austria hosted the football European Championship in 2008 and the handball European Championship in 2010. In particular the handball players delivered a great performance and a spectacular show. Our goal is to make volleyball even more popular in Europe. Austria and the Czech Republic are two countries at the very heart of Europe – and we want to bring volleyball into the hearts of the European people. Vienna and Innsbruck are two wonderful cities in a beautiful country. We are very pleased to have the possibility to show our neighbours all the beautiful things in Austria. Volleyball is supposed to be also an ambassador for Austria in the world“, explains Peter Kleinmann, President of the Austrian Volleyball Federation.
