Support is really welcome

Austria's Headcoach Michael Warm traveled the country for the last three weeks to get a picture of the practice habits of the Nationalteam players with their clubs. The Austrian Federation and the clubs cooperate in preparing for the EuroVolley 2011 in Austria and the Czech Republic. To be ideally prepared for the big tournament, Team Austria will participate in the European top league MEL (Middle European League) this season. The development of the players will be in the hands of the clubs for the most part. In an interview with Andreas Schnedl Headcoach Warm spoke about the support the Federation provides.

How content are you with what you have seen traveling Austria?

I was on the road for three weeks visiting clubs in Vienna, Lower Austria , Carinthia and Tyrol. This week I plan to got to Styria. I had a lot of good conversations with club responsibles. Of course there are lots of different conceptions that are determined by the general conditions of the clubs. I like the diversity and the fact that all the clubs aim at a high standard of work ethic. I like how the National players are accommodated.

What conclusions could you draw?

I was surprised by the professional demands of the clubs. I have seen some players I will continue to watch and that I would also like to participate in national team activities. We will work on developing the potential of those players together with the clubs. By doing that we want to create a pool of players that we want to lead to the level of the national team.

What are the points of emphasis of the cooperation with the clubs?

The Federation wants to help in developing especially concerning the athletic and technical abilities of the players. Of course the Coaches also have to win games. We nevertheless believe that there are more possibilities to develop the technical abilities. It is really important that all parties are on the same page. I will continue to strive to develop close ties to the coaches and managers. The support of the Federation was really welcome. We did agree on practice plans for the players. I think that the clubs are conscious of the opportunity the EuroVolley 2011 provides for Austrian Volleyball. They vowed total cooperation, even though the combined efforts provide an additional burden for them. The clubs will profit hugely from the further development of the players.
