Welcome on Eurovolley 2011 web site

Support is really welcome

Austria's Headcoach Michael Warm traveled the country for the last three weeks to get a picture of the practice habits of the Nationalteam players with their clubs. The Austrian Federation and the clubs cooperate in preparing for the EuroVolley 2011 in Austria and the Czech Republic. To be ideally prepared for the big tournament, Team Austria will participate in the European top league MEL (Middle European League) this season. The development of the players will be in the hands of the clubs for the most part. In an interview with Andreas Schnedl Headcoach Warm spoke about the support the Federation provides.

 

How content are you with what you have seen traveling Austria?

 

I was on the road for three weeks visiting clubs in Vienna, Lower Austria , Carinthia and Tyrol. This week I plan to got to Styria. I had a lot of good conversations with club responsibles. Estonia, Belgium and Turkey win first legs of the playoff games

This weekend the first legs of the playoff games of the qualification for the EuroVolley 2011 in Austria and the Czech Republic were played. On Saturday Estonia beat the Netherlands 3:1 (25:19, 27:25, 22:25, 25:20) at home in Pärnu and Belgium celebrated a 3:1 (25:21, 25:20, 19:25, 25:17) away win in Teruel against Spain. Turkey followed that up with a 3:1 (25:19, 25:16, 23:25, 25:13)-victory against Greece in front of 6.000 spectators in Ankara.

 

The final three spots for the EuroVolley 2011 will be decided in  the second leg games next weekend. Already qualified are host nations Austria and the Czech Republic, as well as the Top 5-nations of the EuroVolley 2009 (Bulgaria, France, Poland, Russia, Serbia). Slovenia, Finnland, Slovakia, Germany, Italy and Portugal claimed their spots in the previous qualification rounds.

 

Austria takes Silver at Beach Volleyball European Championship

Clemens Doppler an Matthias Mellitzer have won the Silver Medal at the Beach Volleyball European Championship Final in Berlin. The Austrian pair lost the highly dramatic final to the defending champions Reinder Nummerdor and Richard Schuil 1:2 (18:21, 30:28, 18:20). It’s the third consecutive title for Nummerdor/Schuil after capturing the crown in 2008 and 2009.

Ski-Icon joins EuroVolley-ambassadors

Alpine Skiing legend Franz Klammer, Olympic downhill champion 1976, has agreed this week to help in creating a nice atmosphere for the Euro Volley 2011 in Austria and the Czech Republic.

More prominent ambassadors for EuroVolley2011

OEVV-Präsident Peter Kleinmann was able to gain more prominent sport stars over as ambassadors for the EuroVolley 2011 last week at the A1 Beach Volleyball Grand Slams presented by VOLKSBANK in Klagenfurt.
