Safeguarding the European Championship![]() When entering the venue through the ticket points, you meet them. When searching for the correct seat, you ask them for assistance.
These are professional bodyguards who watch over the 2011 EuroVolley in Karlovy Vary and on the other venues. In the KV Arena, thirty men dressed in yellow vests work from 1 pm to 9 pm.
Vladimir Hudec, operation manager of the safeguarding agency who has been in business for 15 years, says: “This is the first time we have been safeguarding a top volleyball event. Last year we were here for the Women´s Basketball World Championship. And we are regularly ordered for the Czech extra-league matches in ice-hockey.”
And fans? Are they different?
“Of course, ice-hockey fans are more energetic and spontaneous. They form groups and they are usually local. As for volleyball fans and ball games in general, the fans obviously understand the game very well. Their professional and educational backround is slightly different.
